Now it is finally time to highlight the most beautiful function of the board!

As commissioner of internal affairs, I am part of the 59th board of the VCSVU. Here I, along with my other 4 fellow board members, make sure that the association stays running and innovative. All five of us have various tasks, which ensures that there is a suitable function for everyone. As commissioner internal I make sure that the members know what is happening within the association. For example, if a new activity is planned, I work with the relevant committee and the promotion committee to make sure it gets to the members. This is mostly done through social media platforms and the weekly email that I send out weekly. Because I am incredibly involved in social media, I am also automatically the chair of the promotion committee. So I am also called the influencer of the group. Besides all the promotion, my duties include managing the website and keeping an overview of all the committees. So in one sentence, my duties are the contact between the members and the association.

I believe that a commissioner internally possesses a number of actualities, creative, enthusiastic, spontaneous and orderly. Of the board, I think this position is the most creative. You are constantly busy with social media, where you sometimes have to be a little creative to not come across as a boring granny. Of course, it is also important to keep an overview so that everything reaches the members on time and in the right way. If you have this all clear to yourself, you are not constantly busy with questions such as: What should I still post? Is this promo out yet? Shit this promo still has to be made! Maybe you also think, shouldn't I have some understanding of how to manage a site or be a bit handy with laptops etc? If you ask my board I am the biggest digital illiterate of our board, so you certainly don't have to be afraid of this. This will all run smoothly, with me it also worked out fine (I think)! Partly thanks to google and my dear committee buddyeeee.

Before I entered board year, I thought: but this position hardly takes any time, does it? Post a little promotion, easy peasy. But soon the opposite became apparent. As an intern, you are constantly looking at what the members want. Which form of promotion works better and which works less. Are the committees all doing well? Do they need support somewhere? What can be improved and renewed on the site? These are questions that run through my head every week. Besides, we are one board and I like to jump in when it becomes too much for someone else.

I thought very carefully about the choice to do a board year, but I still had no idea what I was getting myself into. Fortunately, during your candidate board period, you already get a bit of training for this, but despite that it was still quite a suprise what was going to happen. Now six months later, I realize how much I have learned. Not only for my position, but also about myself. I have also been able to meet a lot of new people throughout the Netherlands and have made a lot of connections that could possibly take me further. I haven't regretted my decision to apply for the job for one moment!

Of course I described here mostly serious tasks, but thankfully my board year consists of much more than that! As a board you are in a kind of world that is vague to others. We regularly go to cobo's, where we get to test our voice volume, we have several galas and occasionally we chill out at the VU. I sincerely mean it when I say I'm having the time of my life. After all, it is quite exciting to start such a year, because you have no idea with whom you will embark on this adventure, because what if it does not click at all with the rest? Fortunately, I did not experience this situation. During a board year you become so close to each other in no time, that I think many boards become very good friends. In short, a board year offers so many opportunities in many different areas. It is THE ultimate opportunity to get everything out of your student life.

Dan is het nu eindelijk tijd om de mooiste functie van het bestuur te belichten!

Als commissaris intern maak ik deel uit van het 59e bestuur der VCSVU. Hierbij zorg ik, samen met mijn andere 4 bestuursgenootjes, dat de vereniging draaiend en vernieuwend blijft. Wij hebben alle vijf diverse taken, wat zorgt dat er voor ieder een gepaste functie tussen zit. Als commissaris intern zorg ik ervoor dat de leden weten wat er gebeurt binnen de vereniging. Als er bijvoorbeeld een nieuwe activiteit gepland is, zorg ik samen met de desbetreffende commissie en de promotie commissie dat het bij de leden terecht komt. Dit gebeurt veelal door social media platformen en de weekmail die ik wekelijks verstuur. Doordat ik ontzettend veel bezig ben met social media, ben ik automatisch ook de voorzitter van de promotie commissie. Ik ben dus ook wel de influencer van de groep. Naast alle promotie valt er nog meer in mijn takenpakket, zoals het beheren van de website en het overzicht houden van alle commissies. In één zin gezegd zijn mijn taken dus het contact tussen de leden en de vereniging.

Ik ben van mening dat een commissaris intern beschikt over een aantal eigenlijkschappen, creatief, enthousiast, spontaan en overzichtelijk. Van het bestuur is denk ik deze functie de meest creatieve functie. Je bent constant bezig met social media, waar je soms toch wel een klein beetje creatief moet zijn om niet als een saaie oma over te komen. Daarnaast is het natuurlijk ook belangrijk om overzicht te houden, zodat alles op tijd en op de juiste manier bij de leden terecht komt. Als je dit allemaal duidelijk voor jezelf hebt, ben je niet contstant bezig met vragen zoals: wat moest ik nou nog posten? Is deze promo er al uit? Shit deze promo moet nog gemaakt worden!! Misschien denk je ook wel, moet ik niet een beetje verstand hebben van hoe je een site moet beheren of een beetje handig zijn met laptops etc? Als je het aan mijn bestuur vraagt ben ik de grootste digibeet van ons bestuur, dus hiervoor hoef je zeker niet bang te zijn. Dit loopt allemaal los, bij mij is het ook goedgekomen (denk ik dan)! Mede dankzij google en mijn lieve commissariaat maatjeeee.

Voordat ik het bestuursjaar in ging, dacht ik: maar deze functie kost toch amper tijd? Een beetje promotie posten, easy peasy. Maar al snel bleek het tegendeel. Als intern ben je constant bezig met kijken wat de leden willen. Welke vorm van promotie werkt beter en welke minder. Gaat het allemaal goed bij de commissies? Zijn ze ergens ondersteuning nodig? Wat kan er nog verbeterd en vernieuwd worden aan de site? Dit zijn vragen die wekelijks door mijn hoofd spoken. Daarnaast zijn we één bestuur met z'n allen en spring ik dus graag bij waar kan als het eventjes te veel wordt voor een ander.

Ik heb heel erg goed nagedacht over de keuze om een bestuursjaar te gaan doen, maar ik had alsnog geeeeen idee waar ik nou eigenlijk aan begon. Gelukkig wordt je hier tijdens je kandidaatsbestuur periode al een beetje voor ingewerkt, maar ondanks dat was het nog een hele suprise wat er allemaal ging gebeuren. Nu een half jaar later, besef ik hoeveel ik al geleerd heb. Niet alleen voor mijn functie, maar ook over mijzelf. Daarnaast heb ik heel erg veel nieuwe mensen mogen ontmoeten door heel Nederland en heb ik al veel connecties gelegd die mij mogelijk later weer een stukje verder kunnen brengen. Ik heb geen moment spijt gehad van mijn keuze om te gaan solliceteren!

Ik beschreef hier natuurlijk vooral serieuze taken, maar gelukkig bestaat mijn bestuursjaar uit nog vééél meer dan dat! Als bestuur zit je in een soort wereldje wat voor anderen maar vaag is. Zo gaan we regelmatig naar cobo's, waar we ons stemvolume flink mogen testen, hebben we meerdere gala's en chillen we soms net wat te lang en vaak op de VU. Ik meen het oprecht als ik zeg dat ik de tijd van mijn leven heb. Het is namelijk best spannend om z'n jaar te beginnen, omdat je ook geen idee hebt met wie je dit avontuur aan gaat, want wat nou als het totaal niet klikt met de rest? Gelukkig heb ik deze situatie niet meegemaakt. Tijdens een bestuursjaar wordt je binnen no time zo close met elkaar, dat ik denk dat veel besturen hier hele goede vrienden aan overhouden. Kortom een bestuursjaar biedt zoveel mogelijkheden op allerlei diverse vlakken. Het is DE ultieme kans om alles uit je studententijd te halen.

Dan zal ik er nu echt een eind aan gaan breien. Als jullie nog vragen hebben over het bestuur in het algemeen, mijn prachtige functie of hele andere dingen, kom gerust naar mij toe! Ik sta open om je van alles uit te leggen en te laten zien.
