Last week, all five roles were highlighted. From the busy and chaotic life of our amicably hairy preases to Amber-Fleur's typing speed, Marit handling all invoices and expense claims, sMartie's connections, to Jor's promotion. As Roy mentioned, each one is an essential part of the whole, crucial for the flourishing of our association, and ultimately, the ultimate goal of this project — crucial for the enjoyment and success of our members.
However, a board year entails much more than just your own role. A board year you do together. Not just because it happens to be that way, but because there is no other way. The personal qualities and skills of each individual within the board are needed to bring the year to a successful conclusion. And this year provides the perfect foundation for collaboration. This certainly doesn't mean that everyone always agrees unanimously; on the contrary, it's crucial that everyone can share and contribute their own vision.
Where the power of the board really begins is in embracing these differences. Only the optimal embracing and utilization of these differences ensures that all our members can feel welcome and heard. In this way, each board member contributes to the whole, which is only enriched by the diversity of perspectives. This leads to innovative solutions and creative approaches. One team, one task.
In addition to enriching the association, you also experience personal enrichment. The board year becomes not just a period of community service, but a time of growth. This growth manifests itself in many different ways, ways that others may spot even faster than you yourself. From self-confidence and planning to pulling pints and shot Pēre Labat 59. Fortunately, you don't have to experience this trip by yourself either. It will not be a personal city trip, it will take the form of a shared journey of growth and development.
Together with your board, you will travel across the country, bonding with our sisters. Be it while enjoying a shot of Hooghoudt, Hartevelt or Ketel 1 (although Bols remains the most delicious), conviviality knows no time. And amidst all the board duties, there is thankfully enough time left over for this sociability. From all the COBOs at the VU and activities throughout the country to our own (most enjoyable) borrels and activities. This way, you will learn a lot about each other and you will spend a lot of time together.
The start of the board year takes some getting used to. You don't really know each other yet, and despite the onboarding, you have no idea what's really in store. This is where you quickly realize how nice it is to do this together. Besides having someone to talk and have a drink with, you can always rely on each other. One team, one task.
We are now halfway through our journey, and we have all learned an incredible amount about ourselves and each other; a valuable experience for now, and perhaps more for later.

Vorige week zijn alle vijf de functies belicht. Van het drukke en chaotische leven van onze aardig behaarde praeses, de typsnelheid van Amber-Fleur, alle facturen en declaraties van Marit, en de connecties van sMartie, tot de promotie van Jor. Zoals Roy al heeft gezegd, allen essentiele onderdelen van het geheel. Cruciaal voor het floreren van onze vereniging, en, het uiteindelijke einddoel van dit project, cruciaal voor het genot én het succes van onze leden.
Echter houdt een bestuursjaar veel meer in dan alleen je eigen functie. Een bestuursjaar doe je namelijk samen. Niet alleen omdat het toevallig zo hoort, maar omdat het niet anders kan. De persoonlijke kwaliteiten en vaardigheden van ieder individu binnen het bestuur zijn nodig om het jaar tot een succesvol einde te brengen. En dit jaar zorgt voor de perfecte basis om samen te werken. Dit betekent zeker niet dat iedereen het altijd unaniem eens is, in tegendeel, het is juist belangrijk dat iedereen zijn eigen visie kan delen en inbrengen.
Waar de kracht van het bestuur echt begint, is bij het omarmen van deze verschillen. Alleen het optimaal omarmen én benutten van deze verschillen zorgt ervoor dat al onze leden zich welkom en gehoord kunnen voelen. Op deze manier draagt elk bestuurslid mee aan het geheel, welke door de diversiteit van perspectieven alleen maar meer verrijkt word. Dit leidt tot innovatieve oplossingen en creatieve benaderingen. Eén team, één taak.
Naast de verrijking van de vereniging, word je ook persoonlijk verrijkt. Het bestuursjaar wordt niet alleen een periode van taakvervulling, maar een tijd van groei. Deze groei uit zich op allerlei verschillende manieren, manieren die anderen wellicht nog sneller spotten dan jij zelf. Van zelfvertrouwen en plannen tot bakken trekken en Pēre Labat 59 shotten. En gelukkig hoef je ook deze reis niet zelf te beleven. Het zal geen persoonlijke stedentrip worden, het zal vorm nemen als een gedeelde reis van groei en ontwikkeling.
Samen met je bestuur reis je het hele land door, om te bonden met onze zusjes. Zij het onder het genot van een shotje Hooghoudt, Hartevelt of Ketel 1 (hoewel Bols het lekkerst blijft), gezelligheid kent geen tijd. En naast alle bestuurstaken blijft er gelukkig ook genoeg tijd over voor deze gezelligheid. Van alle COBOs op de VU en activiteiten door het hele land tot onze eigen (gezelligste) borrels en activiteiten. Op deze manier leer je ontzettend veel over elkaar, en zal je veel met elkaar optrekken.
De start van het bestuursjaar is wennen. Je kent elkaar nog niet echt, en je hebt, ondangs de inwerking, geen idee wat je echt te wachten staat. Hierbij merk je al heel snel hoe fijn het is om dit samen te doen. Naast dat er altijd iemand is om mee te praten en te borrelen, kun je ook altijd op elkaar bouwen. Eén team, één taak.
Wij zitten inmiddels op de helft van onze reis, en we hebben allemaal ontzettend veel over onszelf en elkaar geleerd; een waardevolle ervaring voor nu, en wellicht nog wel meer voor later.
